Zornitza Family Estate – wine vintage 2017
The history of our cellar began in 2011, with the plantation of 50,000 sq. m of vineyards on top of the hills around the Estate. Syrah is the dominant vine, accompanied by 17 other local and classic red wine grape varieties.
The first wines from the Zornitza Family Estate brand appeared in 2016.
The year was exceptional and allowed for several successful experiments. The pilot wine was called Syrah Fifty / Fifty. The first Syrah was in Rhone-style – delicate, pleasant and extremely complex, while the other was of the Australian type – with a very intense flavour, dried fruit notes and spiciness. Several interesting blends were made as a result of the assemblage.
The unique and boutique character of our wine is due to the completely manual process of picking and selecting the grapes, producing, bottling and labelling of the finished wine.
Zornitza Family Estate presented its second boutique wine vintage/harvest 2017 in the Degustation Room on March 31, 2018, in front of guests and friends. The Chief Sommelier of the estate, Alexander Skorchev describes the quality of the harvest as excellent: “The dry and sunny summer is reflected in grapes with a smaller volume/water content, but with a stronger concentration of aromas and higher sugar levels. Another part of the plantations became fruitful and for the first year, we picked the Petit Verdot and Grenache varieties.
The Syrah which is the main part of our vineyards was excellent. It was harvested in 4 stages and separately vinified. As a result of the first grape harvest, we made Syrah Zornitza Family Estate 2017, which is more sophisticated, elegant and fruity. The second stage of the harvest was a part of the creation of Syrah and Grenache Zornitza Family Estate 2017. The third and fourth grape harvests continued the Sara Fifty/Fifty flagship line. Our Marselan excelled, one part we bottled alone – Marselan Zornitza Family Estate 2017, and another part joined the Shiroka Melnishka Vine Coupage for the creation of Melnik and Marselan Zornitza Family Estate 2017.”
Petit Verdot found its partner in Cabernet Sauvignon and the result was Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot Zornitza Family Estate 2017.
The Broad-leaved Melnik vine created a Pinot Noir’s style wine with a slight hint of tobacco and leather, and the vinification went without the participation of oak wood.
During the presentation, our guests had the opportunity to bottle their own collectable bottles with special labels containing the date of bottling, the name of the bottler and a signature of our Chief Sommelier Alexander Skorchev.
